As reported by the BBC, the household energy discount offered to residents this past winter and throughout spring 2023, with the aim to reduce electricity demand at peak times, is now back on the agenda for winter 2023.
As plans are put into place to reduce the risk of power cuts across the UK, the National Grid has stated it expects to have enough capacity to meet current demands, however, it also added that it advises the energy-saving scheme should be maintained. The National Grid also goes on to say during the report, that the drawn-out Russian invasion of Ukraine and the disruptions caused by it poses "uncertainty and a risk" to the UK’s energy supplies, with difficulties expected with demand in January 2024.
With the UK still heavily reliant on imported energy sources from continental Europe, steps are said to be taken to minimise the potential impact on UK customers if supplies were disrupted again.
